The Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), launched  Monday morning 16th of June 2025 the regional workshop on "Criminal Asset Tracing, Freezing, and Confiscation." The event is generously hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco, represented by the National Financial Intelligence Authority.

The workshop brings together participants from Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs), judicial authorities, law enforcement bodies, supervisory authorities, customs, and cross-border asset tracing agencies from MENAFATF member countries. It also includes international experts from the US Treasury, MENA- ARIN regional network, and other regional and global asset recovery stakeholders.

The workshop aimed at enhancing participants' capacity to implement asset confiscation procedures – including non-conviction-based confiscation – in line with FATF standards, the workshop promotes interagency cooperation and explores modern investigative tools such as AI and big data analytics. The training program features practical exercises, interactive discussions between participants with the aim of enhancing confiscation efforts and developing national policies in the field of asset recovery. and country presentations on national experiences and challenges in criminal asset recovery.
