In collaboration with Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing Unit of Jordan, MENAFATF held a workshop on “The FATF 40 Recommendations and New Assessment Methodology” with the participation of experts from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) during the period from 26 to 30 January 2014, in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

This workshop discussed the revised recommendations of FATF in combatting money laundering and terrorist financing and proliferation (2012) and the amended evaluation methodology for assessing compliance with these recommendations which was approved in 2013 by the FATF and it consists of technical compliance and assessment of effectiveness. 
This workshop was a great opportunity for the participating countries to exchange experiences on the mechanism used in the implementation of the FATF Recommendations and discussing the challenges that are facing the implementation of these recommendations. The participants at this workshop were divided into working groups and were given practical exercises related to the technical compliance with the amended international standers as well as a national risk assessment exercise which added constructive interaction between the participants by sharing different opinions about the exercises.

Representatives from a number of MENAFATF member countries participated in this workshop: (Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Morocco, Yemen, Oman, Tunisia, Palestine, Lebanon and Libya).
