Workshop on "The Effective Implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions and the relevant UN Conventions & International Standards on CML/FT & Proliferation"

In collaboration with Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing Unit of Jordan and the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), MENAFATF held a workshop on “The Effective Implementation of United Nation Security Council Resolutions and the relevant United Nations Conventions and International Standards on Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism & Proliferation” with the participation of experts from the 1267 monitoring team, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Panel of Experts on Iran created pursuant to resolution 1929 (2010) and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), during the period from 2 to 3 October 2013, in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. 

This workshop comes to define the relevant requirements contained in the UN Security Council resolutions and international conventions, in addition to strengthen the mechanisms for international and regional cooperation and coordination at the national level to ensure raise the effective commitment by the responsible parties to the implementation of the requirements and tools of the United Nations and the Security Council relevant resolutions which are: the resolution 1267 (1999), resolution 1373 (2001), resolution 1540 (2004), in addition to resolution 1718(2006) and resolution 1737(2006). The workshop also discussed the international standards revised by FATF to combat money laundering and terrorist financing in addition to the new evaluation methodology. 

This workshop was a great opportunity for the participating countries to exchange experiences on the mechanism used in the implementation of Security Council resolutions and discussing the challenges that are facing the implementation of these resolutions. As well as discussing the best practices identified by MENAFATF member countries regarding the effective implementation of the UN resolutions and instruments.

Representatives from a number of MENAFATF member countries participated in this workshop: (Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Sudan, Iraq, Morocco, Yemen, Tunisia, Palestine, Lebanon and Libya).
